Good evening, dear readers!
Well, it’s here. Carnifex has now been released into the wild! It’s been a long journey, but it’s almost done. The only thing left is to wait for the physical books to arrive, sign those suckers, and then send them out to the awesome Kickstarter backers who are waiting on them!
If you didn’t get into the Carnifex Kickstarter, fret not! You missed out on getting your name in the dedications page, but you can certainly still enjoy all the horror of extinct Australian megafauna!
You might have also seen another little release pop up in the last month or so. Meat Grinder: A Bushranger Revenge Screamer.
What the fuck is a Screamer, you ask?
Sometimes you don’t want to read a whole 80k word novel. Sometimes you just want a nasty little thrill that you can read in an hour or two. Screamers are fast, savage short stories designed to be read quickly. They contain mature content, and will be a lot more extreme than my full-length novels. So if you decide to wade into these blood-soaked waters, be warned. You might not come back alive.
Meat Grinder is just a taste of what’s to come. Over the next six months I’ll be releasing three more Screamers set in the dirty convict-infested world of colonial Australia. I’ll be releasing each short story separately, then as a collected volume for a discounted price. It’s up to you whether you want them individually, or to wait for the collection.
The next two Screamers have working titles – The Bone Serpent & Gore Harvest. There will be vicious humans, terrifying monsters and enough gore to fill a lake.
But what’s happening with Deep Six, Hellscream? And what about the giant Kaiju/Mecha you keep talking about?
Well, come closer and I’ll tell you.
Deep Six is progressing well. As you’ve probably guessed, my super intelligent and attractive readers, there’s a wee motif being used in the titles of these books. Metro 7, Deep Six, Jaxon Five etc… It’s a countdown. To what? The end of the universe as we know it.
The end of the series will culminate in an epic of SciFi Horror called Zero Hour, and will be the 8th book in the series.
Along with finishing Deep Six, I’m also completely plotting the entire eight book saga. Yep. The future will be set in stone, which will give me a stable, powerful platform on which to continue writing the series. I want the entire series to be fucking awesome, and I want to make sure that it’s going to be. Once all this planning work is done and the narrative is locked in, I can focus on getting them written quicker.
I don’t want a two year break between Deep Six and the next book in the series, and I know you don’t either!
And that Kaiju/Mecha thriller? Titan Wars: Annihilation is no more. I unpublished the first volume from the Kindle Store earlier this week. If you’re one of the 10(ish) people who bought the first volume, congratulations! You own a super rare piece of Matthew J. Hellscream merch that no one else is every going to be able to own!
Why did I unpublish the first volume?
I wasn’t happy with it. I think it’s a good story, but it’s not the best story it can be. I had a lot of lofty goals with Annihilation, and I don’t think I pulled them off as well as I could have. The book was written from a perspective I wasn’t happy with, which limited the scope of the series in a way that would impact the effectiveness of the ongoing narrative. So I’m going back to the drawing board, and I’m looking at doing a total rewrite, along with a title change.
Annihilation is dead. Long live Earth to Embers.
